Exercising the right to vote properly

Saturday, 27 December 2008

THE most important political right of every adult citizen of a democratic country is 'voting'.
In ancient Greek city-states, all people sat together and decided the affairs of the state. With the increase of the size and population of the states, voting system has evolved. Then only men were allowed to vote. Women had to struggle for their right to vote.
Now, all citizens, both male and female aged at least 18, have this voting right. This is known as universal adult suffrage.
Voting right is a sacred right for every citizen. The unalloyed verdict of the voters can help the formation of a good, honest and people-loving government in a country.
For the first time in our country, 'NO VOTE' has been launched, which is like a hand-toll to check the corrupt and ill-motivated candidates from coming to power. Everybody can apply this 'NO VOTE', if he or she wishes.
The authorities concerned will have to take all necessary steps to hold free, fair and credible elections. Furthermore, a congenial environment has to be created so that every voter can cast his or her own vote spontaneously and fearlessly.
