Exhibition on constrn materials begins in city today

A three-day exhibition on construction materials and equipment organised by the Bangladesh Association of Construction Industry (BACI) begins today (Saturday) in the city.
Special assistant to the chief adviser, M Tamim, will inaugurate the BACI Construction Industry Exhibition 2008 at the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel at 11:00 am, the organisers said Friday.
President of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) Mubasshar Hussain and president of International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors' Association (IFAWPCA) Aminul Islam will attend the inaugural function as special guest and guest of honour respectively.
"The exhibition has been organised for the first time in the country with an aim to introduce the new and modern construction materials and equipment to the customers," said Sheikh Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, convener of the exhibition committee, at a press conference at the National Press Club Friday.
The main objective of the exhibition is to provide the country's construction industry a scope for developing new alternate sources of supplies, making new contacts and discovering and capitalising on new opportunities for products and service providers to the sector, he said.
A total of 33 construction firms will participate in the exhibition, which will have 51 stalls, with their latest technology related construction materials and support services, said the organisers.
The exhibition will remain open to all from 10am to 9pm daily from June 21 to June 23.
Addressing the press conference Rafiqul Islam urged the government to introduce a central registration system, provide banking, insurance and tax rebate to the construction sector, setting up of adequate training centres for skilled manpower, allocation of fund for research.
Among others, BACI acting present Nazrul Islam, IFAWPCA president Aminul Islam, secretary general Mir Zahir Hossain and BACI member Atiqur Rahman were present at the press conference.
