Exorbitant school fees

Tuesday, 18 November 2014

In our country, education is fast becoming a costly affair over the years which the middle class cannot afford.  English medium schools are charging exorbitant tuition fees from their students and Bangla medium schools are also no exception. Education has become a money-making tool which is being used to fetch throat-cut profits whereas it should not be so.
It is indeed surprising that even private schools charge new session fees every year from students. Very often they come up with some excuse or the other to extort money from the guardians who have no other choice but to succumb to the unreasonable demands of the school authorities.
If the middle-income people are so frustrated with the present education system and its high expenditures, how would the poor people be able to give education to their children? Many private schools, which charge high fees from their students, do not even give good salaries to their teachers who have to rely on private coaching to earn some extra money. They are also compelled to change their jobs often and the students are sufferers.
I hope, the Education Ministry will look into the matter and ensure that the schools charge reasonable fees from their students and stop exploitation of helpless guardians by unethical school managements. Education can never be treated as a business.
