RAJSHAHI, Nov 19 (BSS): Wide-ranging promotion and expansion of biogas plants has become an urgent need to reduce the use of chemical fertilizer in the farming fields.
"We have enormous prospects of large-scale expansion of biogas plants as most of the village-people are believed to have livestock and vacant places in homesteads," Dr Ilias Hossain, Senior Scientific Officer of Regional Wheat Research Station (RWRS), has said.
He says use of bio-slurry, main effluent of biogas plant, always improves soil fertility and increase crop productions. "Enhanced use of bio-slurry has enormous contribution towards reducing use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the farming fields."
Dr Ilias clarifies that an optimum use of bio-fertilizers always improve soil textures, fertility, increase its water and nutrient storing capacities, upgrade sandy land to sandy-loamy and sandy loamy to loamy and then clay soil in course of time.
Aminul Islam, a seed contract-grower in Bidirpur village under Godagari upazila of the district, said he had set up two plants in an effort to boost seed production through using bio-slurry.
