Expansion initiative still hanging in balance

NILPHAMARI, Mar 17: Expansion initiative of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industry Corporation's (BSCIC) industrial estate in Nilphamari is still hanging in the balance.
There is a BSCIC industrial estate in Saidpur municipality on 11 acres of land where there are 47 plots and industries were established. At present there is no extra plots and accommodation for expansion there.
In response to repeated demand for expansion and accommodation by the local entrepreneurs government constituted a five member survey team to find out a new location.
The team selected a place at Palashbari union in the northern end of Nilphamari municipality on 110 acres of land in 2014.
But due to unknown reasons the realisation of long standing demand of the local people still remain halted as a result of which local entrepreneurs are being deprived of the facility.
While contacted DD of BSCIC Nilphamari Akhtaruzzaman said the process is going on and it would be established very soon.
While contacted president of Nilphamari Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Maruf Zaman Koel said the entrepreneurs of the district are eagerly waiting for the project which should be established immediately.
While contacted ex-president of NCCI Abdur Wahed Sarker urged the government to established the proposed BSCIC estate urgently which will increase the pace of development of the region.
