Expansion of Saidpur BSCIC Industrial Estate demanded

NILPHAMARI, Mar 29: Local entrepreneurs have reiterated their demand for expansion of Saidpur Industrial Estate under Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC).
Many promising entrepreneurs of the locality are frustrated for non-availability of any industrial plot at the estate.
The estate was established in 1987 on 10.93 acres of land in the town of Saidpur. A total of 90 plots were leased out to 47 industrial units. Some industrial units have more than one plots. Sources said most of the industrial units are in production.
The plots are generally leased for 99 years and the lease valuation of one acre of land is Tk 7,50,000 to be paid in 10 years in 10 installments. The size of a plot varies from 3000 to 4500 square feet.
The main products of these industrial units are iron nails, flour, jute yarn, bicycle spare parts, tube well and shallow tube well spare parts, nuts and bolts, chemical fertiliser (mixed), potato chips, soap, charcoal, foundry etc.
Most of the products are sold in greater Rangpur and Dinajpur districts. There are 690 employees in all the industrial units. Local entrepreneurs demanded urgent expansion of the industrial estate.
