CHITTAGONG, Mar 23: Bangladesh and Thailand are now having discussion on a liberal trade agreement between the two countries which will play an effective role in expanding the existing bilateral trade.
The Ambassador of Thailand in Bangladesh Chartimpol Tharnchit said this at the Chamber auditorium while exchanging views with the Board of Directors of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Thursday.
CCCI President Saifuzzaman Chowdhury presided over the meeting while CCCI Senior Vice President MA Latif and Vice President Mahbubul Alam also spoke on the occasion, among others.
The Thai envoy said that because of the fraternal relations existing between Thailand and Bangladesh, one thousand tonnes of rice have been handed over to the Bangladesh government in aid of the Sidr affected people of the country.
He underscored the need for exchanging information concerning bilateral investment, trading atmosphere and technology between the business communities of the two Asian countries for strengthening bilateral trade relations.
While greeting the Thai ambassador, CCCI president said that despite enhancement of the trade volume between Thailand and Bangladesh in recent years, a large scale deficit still persisted in the bilateral trade.
In a bid to reduce the trade gap, he called upon the Thai businessmen to import more goods from Bangladesh and also invest in different potential sectors like tourism, aqua culture, fisheries, processing of fruits, healthcare, etc in Bangladesh.
