Expatriate shot dead in Noakhali by \\\'extortionist\\\'

A China expatriate was gunned allegedly by an extortionist at Companiganj upazila in Noakhali district on Sunday. The dead is Zahidul Islam Maruf, 42. He came home from China two months ago. Sajedur Rahman Sajid, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station said a local extortionist had been demanding an amount of money as illegal toll from Maruf for the last two months. The extortionist stabbed Maruf in front of his house around 01:00 am with sharp weapons and later shot him, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali Medical College Hospital for autopsy, according to UNB.
