Sunday, 9 August 2015
Expatriate Bangladeshis have sent home about $1.39 billion last month, the third highest amount remitted in a month, the Bangladesh Bank says. The amount, however, is about $53 million less than June. Bangladesh received $1.493 billion, its highest remittance in a month, in July last fiscal. Kazi Sayedur Rahman, chief of the central bank’s Forex Reserve & Treasury Management Department, says the remittance inflow trend has been positive. He said expatriates had sent home more money in June ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr in mid-July. “But the inflow slowed down a little after Eid,” he added. During the 2014-15 fiscal, expatriate Bangladeshis remitted a record $15.3 billion, the highest amount received in a year. Bangladesh’s forex reserves stood at $25.7 billion on Sunday, according to bdnews24.com.
