Experts for efforts to increase rice production

RANGPUR, Apr 6 (BSS) : Experts at a workshop here Sunday stressed for innovation of time-befitting scientific technologies, skills and stress-tolerant rice varieties along with farmers' endeavours to increase rice production for food security despite climate change impacts.
They were addressing the regional workshop jointly organised by the Integrated Agriculture Productivity Project (IAPP) and Regional Station of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) on IAPP activities at BRRI Station in the city.
Project director of the IAPP and joint secretary of the government Md Nasiruzzaman attended the workshop as the chief guest with director general of BRRI Dr Jiban Krishna Biswas in the chair.
Director (Admin and Common Service) of BRRI at Gazipur Dr Shahjahan Kabir, Rangpur regional additional director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Pratip Kumar Mandal, and Rangpur regional project manager of IAPP Mohammad Ali attended as the special guests.
Principal scientific officer of BRRI and head of its Rangpur Regional Station Dr Shahidul Islam, project manager of the IAPP-wing of BRRI Dr KM Iftekharuddowla, senior scientific officer (IAPP) of BRRI Bishnu Pado Roy, regional director of Agriculture Information Service Abu Sayem, deputy directors of DAE for Rangpur Zulfiquer Haider and Idris Ali for Nilphamari and regional director of Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar Abdul Haque took part in the open discussion session, among others.
About 100 participants including officials, experts, scientists and researchers of DAE, BRRI, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation, Agriculture Information Service, Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute and NGOs, farmers participated.
