Experts for embracing digital innovations in PPP projects
FE REPORT | Friday, 13 May 2022
Global policy-makers, professionals and practitioners have recommended embracing digital innovations in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects as the digital transformation will be a key factor in future.
To them, available digital innovations may limit risks and help better manage the projects.
The observations were made during high-level policy debates, roundtable discussions, parallel sessions and presentation of case studies at the 6th UNECE International PPP Forum that concluded in Barcelona, Spain on May 6, according to a press statement of Bangladesh's PPP Authority.
The three-day international event was held with the theme 'The role of People-first PPPs for the SDGs in Delivering Sustainable Infrastructure to Accelerate the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda.'
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe's (UNECE) PPP Centre of Excellence organised the event, in association with Instituto de EstudiosSuperiores de la Empresa (IESE) Business School (Business School of the University of Navarra- Barcelona Campus) and the Barcelona City Council.
The forum discussed emerging challenges and opportunities both at the national and city levels, such as climate change, the circular economy, digital transformation, green procurement and the blue economy. It also discussed how the challenges could be overcome through People-first PPPs for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A delegation of the PPP Authority participated in the three-day forum, attended by PPP practitioners, policy makers, professionals, academia and consultancy firms from different parts of the world.
PPP Specialist of the PPP Authority AM Al-Amin says Bangladesh has a robust PPP framework that deals with projects focusing on economic growth, environmental sustainability and people's benefits - well-aligned with guidelines of the People-first Public-Private Partnership (PfPPP) of UNECE.
Currently, the PPP Authority is working on climate smart PPPs for private investments in the infrastructure sector.
Some 77 projects worth US$35.42 billion are now under the PPP arrangement, according to the statement.
