Experts for good relations with major countries

But not at the cost of security, they say at a book launching ceremony

FE Report | Tuesday, 1 October 2019

There is a need for maintaining good diplomatic relations with major countries to enhance economic relations with them, speakers at a programme said.
Such relations are also vital for expanding market of Bangladeshi products and diversifying its exports destinations, they added.
However, they mentioned, the country must not discount it's security issue in any case.
They made the observations at an unveiling ceremony of a book titled 'South Asia in Global Power Rivalry: Inside-out Appraisals from Bangladesh', edited by Dr Imtiaz Hussain, head of the Global Studies and Governance Program at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).
The launching ceremony of the book was held at Monday afternoon at the IUB campus in the capital.
International Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Gowher Rizvi attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Chairman of Chittagong Independent University Towhid Samad, the IUB Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman A Matin Chowdhury, the university's Acting Vice-chancellor Milan Pagon and former ambassador Tariq Ahmad Karim attended the function, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gowher Rizvi said the country should maintain a policy to treat the superpowers with great care so that it can avail more market access there.
He, however, warned that Bangladesh must be watchful while getting credit from them for implementing different projects.
According to the organisers, the book is an anthology based on the thoughts shared in an IUB conference held in 2017.
The publication, segmented in 11 chapters, is the result of thoughts expressed by scholars from several local and foreign universities.
