FE Report
Health experts urged Sunday to lay emphasis on nutrition, infant and young child feeding in the health and nutrition policy 2009 in order to improve the overall standard of health care.
They urged for utilising public private partnership to establish a national health, nutrition and population council by replacing the national nutrition council and national population council.
The experts were speaking at national seminar organized by an NGO, Eminence, at the National Press Club.
Former director of the Directorate of Health Services and adviser of Eminence AM Zakir Hossain said the malnutrition rate in children is higher in Bangladesh compared to other countries in the world. Around 46 per cent children are under-weight and the height of 43 per cent are lower compared to their individual age.
"Around 32 per cent mothers suffer from chronic malnutrition while 33 per cent from anaemia in Bangladesh" he said.
He also said the breast-feeding didn't improve in the last decade as only 24 per cent children are given breast-feeding within one hour after birth.
