BOGURA, May 05: Some 14 decimals of land were brought under the farming of BRRI Dhan-81on experimental basis in the district.
Officials of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said they are happy over the yield of the crop. "We are hopeful of growing the paddy variety on a commercial basis in the area in the coming years", they said.
The National Seed Board (NSB) released the seed in 2017 for experimental cultivation.
Sources said the paddy was cultivated in Kahaloo upazila of Bogura, Mymensingh, Chapainawabganj, Brahmanbaria and Jashore districts this season to observe the production rate.
Bogura DAE officials said some five maunds of yield have been achieved from 14 decimals of land in Shekaher village under Kahaloo upazila.
It is possible to achieve some five to six tonnes of production from a hectare of land if weather condition remains favourable till harvesting period, they added.
Saplings of 35 to 40-day old should be planted in November to get the desired output.
Some 30 kg of urea, 13 kg of TSP, 20 kg of MOP, 15 kg of Zipsam and 1.5 kg of zinc fertilisers are needed to grow the paddy on a bigha of land.
Farmers can start harvest from April but it may be changes on paddy ripen condition.
Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chandra Sarker said, "We are overwhelmed over the production of the new variety."
