Sunday, 7 December 2014

All export and import operations have ground to a halt at the Benapole Land Port on Saturday after a labourer was run over by a truck, reports bdnews24.com.
Several hundred trucks, carrying raw materials among other goods, were stuck on either side of the border.
Petrapole Port Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agent Staff Welfare Association General Secretary Kartik Chakrabarty said a worker, 'Nikhil', was run over by a truck in front of Petrapole port's Gate No. 1 while on his way to Benapole port.
"The port workers have stopped export-import operations following the accident."
Benapole check-post Customs official (Cargo Section) Mominur Rahman said Indian entrepreneurs, too, have stopped export-imports following the incident.
Hundreds of goods-laden trucks were stuck at the ports of the two countries. Most of them were carrying export raw materials of garments from Bangladesh.
