Export-import thru\\\' Sona Masjid land port suspended

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Oct 25 (UNB):  Export-import activities through Sona Masjid land port came to a halt on Saturday morning as port workers enforced a strike protesting the murder of C&F agent Manirul Islam.
Sources said the port workers and staff of Sona Masjid land port staged a demonstration at zero point halting loading and unloading activities at the port.
Aminul Islam, an employ of Bangladesh Land Port Authority, working at the port, said supporters and fellows of C&F Agents' Association cashier Manirul Islam, also a local Jubo League leader, staged a demonstration at the port in the morning, protesting his murder.
At one stage, the protesters, equipped with sticks, staged a sit-in at zero point, halting loading and unloading of goods at the port.
C&F agent Monirul Islam, 35, was shot to death by unidentified miscreants in Shibganj upazila on Friday evening.
He was general secretary of no 1 ward unit Jubo League of Shahbazpur union and son of Afzal Hossain of Shialmara village in the upazila.
Police suspected that miscreants might have killed Manirul over dealing with money for business purposes.
Police arrested Akhiru Islam, Tahrul Islam Tutul and Sirajul Islam on suspicion of their involvement in the killing.
