Export income thru' Mongla Port surges

KHULNA, Feb 13: Export income through Mongla Port has witnessed an upward trend since December 2009, overcoming the downtrend prevailing at the beginning of the current fiscal year.
According to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) sources, shrimps worth about US$ 11.6 million and euro 38,110 were exported to 14 GSP certified countries in December last.
In November, frozen shrimps worth over Tk 1.22 billion and white fish worth Tk 3.57 million were exported from 33 fish processing units of Khulna.
Jute and jute goods worth about Tk 78.80 million were exported through Mongla Port to India, Pakistan, China during the July- December period last year, the EPB sources added.
Other goods such as earthen tiles, handicrafts, betel nuts, plastic goods, brass scraps, and ceramic tiles were also exported through Mongla Port and a substantial amount of foreign currency was earned.
