Export of waste 'pet' bottles and cash incentives

I read with deep interest an article, entitled "Waste pet bottles exporters seek 10 pc cash incentive" by Monira Begum Munni which highlighted our present and future economic and environmental aspects. We can no longer live without PET plastics in our daily lives, no one will disagree. They are versatile materials that can be used for many different purposes. Even after PET plastics have served their purpose, they remain versatile and useful materials that can easily be prepared for re-use/recycle. Now who will recycle it? From the technical aspect we are very weak for recycling this material and as a result many countries are getting the cream of such materials by recycling and importing the waste PET bottles. Recycled polyethylene terephthalate (RPET) can be used to make many new products, including fiber for polyester carpet; fabric for T-shirts, long underwear, athletic shoes, luggage, upholstery and sweaters; fiberfill for sleeping bags and winter coats; industrial strapping, sheet and film; automotive parts, such as luggage racks, headliners, fuse boxes, bumpers, grilles and door panels; and new PET containers for both food and non-food products.
Dumping or land filling of the waste PET plastic is very dangerous to the environment. So, what to do with this waste as we have no alternative for recycling now! By exporting the waste PET and earning foreign exchange is an unprecedented issue in our economy. Recycling also reduces the production of waste and the consumption of crude oil.
Almost every exporter from Bangladesh is getting cash incentive for exporting their products in various forms. So, why the Waste Pet Bottles exporter will not be included from this issue. I, being one of the manufacturers and exporters of this item, fervently hope that the concerned authority would pay attention to encourage us in near future.
