Friday, 6 June 2014

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said Thursday the country would be able to give a big boost to its export basket as it is going to start exporting goods to the TPS--OIC member countries, reports BSS.
The Trade Preferential System (TPS) is an arrangement among the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Presenting his budget speech for the fiscal 2014-15 at the Jatiya Sangsad, Mr Muhith said Bangladesh had already sent a list of 476 commodities on offer for export to the TPS-OIC member countries.
Once an agreement was implemented, he said, Bangladesh would be able to increase its export to those member countries.
"We've also finalised the 4th round of tariff negotiation under the Asia Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA)," said Muhith.
The finance minister said the government always laid emphasis on the improvement of the trade relation with the neighbouring countries.
Meanwhile, he said, India had granted duty-free and quota-free access to its market for all commodities except 25 items related to tobacco and liquor.
