Export volume may exceed target: Tofail

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Monday expressed his optimism that the country’s export volume might exceed the target set for the current fiscal year - 2013-2014 - if the current extort trend continues in the coming months. He said the country exported goods, worth US$16.56 billion, during the first half of the current fiscal (July-Dec) against the total export target of US$30.50 billion set for the current fiscal year. He said this while addressing the closing ceremony of Dhaka International Trade Fair 2014 at the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. Mentioning that Bangladeshi products will now get duty-free access to markets in South Korea, China, Japan and Australia, Tofail said the government is working to avail itself of the benefits announced for the developing countries at Bali Conference of World Trade Organisation, according to a news agency.
