Exporters for continuation of tax holiday

Exporters' Association of Bangladesh (EAB) Thursday urged the government to continue the tax-holiday for the next ten years to boost investment in the industrial sector, reports UNB. BEA president Abdus Salam Murshedy made the plea to the government from a press conference held at Sonargaon Hotel. He said that this opportunity would encourage the entrepreneurs to invest in the existing sectors and in new sectors as well. He requested the government to reduce the tax at source to 10 percent from 40 percent and interest on bank loans to a single digit. The BEA also proposed to waive the import duty on diesel and furnace oil for captive generator and boiler. BEA president requested to scrap the Pre-shipment inspection (PSI) requirement for importing new and used capital machinery. He urged the government to provide interest free loan to the industry owners for building dormitory for their workers. In this connection he also sought government rationing system for the workers who are employed in export oriented industries. He further proposed to set up a separate special economic zone for the garment industries. BEA vice-president Safi Ullah Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters Association Saiful Islam, president of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association Jahangir Alamin and BKMEA vice-president Aslam Sunny were present.
