Extortion case filed against Rahmat Ali, five associates

GAZIPUR, June 6 (UNB): An extortion case was filed against former deputy minister and Awami League lawmaker Rahmat Ali and his five associates with a magistrate court here Wednesday.
Lance Corporal (retd) of Army Ziarat Hossain filed the case against Rahmat Ali and Fulbari Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Abul Hakim, former chairmen of Mouchak UP Abdul Wahab and Mojibur Rahman Yasin of Ataboho UP and M Liton of Bhataria village and Raqib Miah of Purba village in Kaliakoir.
The court asked the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliakoir police station to take necessary action in this connection after investigation.
In the case, Ziarat Hossain alleged that the accused at the instruction of Rahmat Ali demanded a 'donation' of Tk 1.0 million for his party in July 2003. Later, he gave them Tk 0.12 million.
He also alleged that a road was constructed on his land as he failed to give them the rest of the amount.
