Extra fare being charged from Eid trippers: BJKS

Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS) has brought allegation of realising extra fare from passengers in all modes of transports ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
It also called upon the authorities to ensure hassle-free journey of the Eid holidaymakers.
Secretary General of BJKS (a passenger welfare platform) Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury made the allegations in a statement issued on Saturday.
He said that normal bus fare for a single person from Dhaka to Mawa (Munshiganj) is Tk 80 but many bus operators were realising between Tk 150 and Tk 200 from a passenger of the route.
He said that bus operators on other inter-district routes were also realsing extra fare from passengers.
He also alleged that fares of air-conditioned (AC) launch seats on different routes were also artificially hiked by launch operators.
He said that the spree of collecting extra fees from people in all modes of public transport is going on ahead of the Eid while the consumer rights protection body is seen inactive.
Mr Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury called upon Roads Transport, Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minster Sheikh Rabiul Alam to take measures so that home-bound passengers could travel to their respective destinations hassle-free.
