Extra fees from SSC candidates

Saturday, 10 January 2015

Since our independence, our government has been emphasising on educating the people. Unique and befitting steps have been taken accordingly by successive governments. Now, we have set an example by distributing 326 million books among the students starting from class I to IX across the country. World leaders have praised Bangladesh for its development in education sector. When the government is thinking of reducing the cost of education, several schools have been extorting extra money from the SSC candidates.
Although education ministry has fixed an examination fee for the SSC candidates, the said schools have been collecting extra fees creating unnecessary problems. It has put pressure on the parents of SSC candidates. Education should not be treated as a business. Recently, the high court has ordered 20 schools in the capital to return the extra money collected from the SSC candidates. This must be an example and the schools in other cities involved in the same practice should be careful. Let education be a smooth and enjoyable affair rather than an unduly expensive one.
