Extra-judicial killing

Friday, 30 January 2015

The number of extra-judicial killings is on the rise and conscious people of the country cannot feel unconcerned about it. The growing number of such incidents depicts the true picture of the prevailing law and order situation and presents a grim image of the country in the outside world. Reports of deaths in "crossfire" and "encounter" with the law enforcing agencies awash newspapers everyday and an occasion when such reports do not appear, is indeed very rare.
It is a gross violation of human rights if someone is killed without being tried and found guilty of murder.  We all look forward to a society free of such acts of brutality that germinate a fear of insecurity. In legal terminology it is called extra-judicial killing. Even the most apathetic followers of day-to-day events are beginning to rise and speak against such heartless killings. Any society with a semblance of respect for the rule of law, cannot remain quiet or indifferent in a situation like this. As citizens of a democratic country, it is high time that we raised our voice against such mindless killings and facilitated the process of law and justice in the country.
