Extra-judicial killings
Sunday, 15 February 2015
The current wave of extra-judicial killings in the country has broken all previous records and unless fully stopped immediately, it is going to go down in our history as a black chapter of human tragedy. It is really shocking and seen by countries and organizations of the outside world as the worst form of human rights abuse. It is a matter of common law that no one can be killed without justice by the court of law. Due to extra-judicial killings, the common people are losing their faith in the rule of law and it will give rise to anarchy in the society. It is a popular demand that all extra-judicial killings should be investigated into and people found responsible should be brought to justice. The image of Bangladesh has been badly tarnished by the regular incidents of extra-judicial killings and the ruling party cannot avoid its responsibility, as the silence of the government in this regard is encouraging further crimes of similar nature. We should not forget that injustice somewhere is a threat to justice everywhere. As citizens of the country, we must raise our voice against such crimes and arrest the rising apprehension that any one of us can get killed any day in similar fashion. It is high time we realize that our right to life is fundamental to our constitution and universal law.
