Extreme heatwave makes life miserable in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, May 19: The people of Chuadanga district are suffering greatly due to absence of rainfall as a heatwave is sweeping across the district.
The excessive heat, high sunshine and unbearable hot wind crippled people's life in the district. The district meteorology office recorded the highest temperature of the district at 41.00 and 41.2 degree Celsius in two days. Mr Jahid Hasan, district meteorology officer of Chuadanga said the temperature may remain unchanged in coming days in the district. At noon the town is turns desolate and few people go out of home for unavoidable needs.
Many school, college and office goers were suffering immensely as they are to wait for long for vehicles because almost no vehicular movement is seen some times due to excessive heat.
"Farmers are very worried specially vegetables growers and jute growers about their produce as their jute plants and vegetables are not growing according to their expectations. Some vegetables and jute lands are turning yellowish and get pest attack in spite of irrigation," said Rahidul Islam, a farmer of Gaidghat village under Chuadanga sadar Upazila.
Many rickshaw and van pullers con not drive their vehicles and passed time away idly for lack of passengers. Children and elderly persons are being attacked with different diseases including diarrhoea, dysentery, jaundice and fever. A total of 50 patients had been admitted into Chuadanga Sadar Hospital at paediatric department against 14 seats for three days where accommodation problem is very acute, hospital sources said.
