'Extremist' killed in gunfight

KUSHTIA, Sept 29 (bdnews24.com): An alleged extremist was killed in a gunfight with the police at village Shwastipur under Sadar Upazila in the early hours of today (Wednesday).
The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam (35), son of Chand Ali of the village Bholadia.
CA Halim, assistant superintendent of police (Sadar circle), told the news agency that on a secret information, district and detective branch (DB) of police, had jointly raided a bamboo grove of the village at about 1am where a group of 'extremists' were holding a secret meeting.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers the 'extremists' opened fire triggering the gun fight.
Later, the police recovered Shahidul's dead body, while other 'extremists' managed to escape.
The law enforcers also recovered a light gun, 12 rounds of ammunition and five cocktails from the spot.
