Wednesday, 3 February 2010

At least 20 students were injured in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Sir AF Rahman Hall of Dhaka University early Tuesday over establishing supremacy, reports UNB.
The police arrested four people, including BCL hall unit President Saiduzzaman Faruk in this connection.
Campus sources said the clash ensued when Mr Faruk was trying to accommodate a student in the room of BCL hall unit General Secretary Mehdi Hasan.
The two groups of BCL, the student front of ruling Awami League, attacked each other and pelted brickbats, leaving a number of students injured, including the BCL hall unit president and the general secretary.
On information, DU Proctor Dr Saiful Islam alongwith police personnel rushed to the scene and tried to quell the feuding groups. But, as he failed to bring the situation under control police fired tear gas shells to disperse them.
A number of panicked general students were also injured during the clash as they jumped onto the ground from different floors of the hall.
