Factional clash leaves 20 Juba Dal men hurt

COMILLA, Oct 11 (bdnews24.com): At least 20 people, including three policemen and two passers-by were injured in a clash between two different factions of Juba Dal over holding council.
Amir-Wasim group, followers of Comilla BNP General Secretary Amin-ur-Rashid Yasin and Swapan-Anwar group, supporters of joint general secretary of BNP's Comilla unit and municipal mayor, Monirul Haque Sakku have been at each other's throat over the council of Comilla South Juba Dal since Saturday night.
Sources said that armed cadres of both factions started gathering outside Comilla Town Hall Sunday morning. But the police barred them from entering the hall which initiated the clash.
The situation got worse with the arrival of Juba Dal central committee President Moazzem Hossain Alal and General Secretary Saiful Islam Nirob at the venue around noon.
Several shots were fired and a number of hand-made bombs were blast.
A school going 15-year old boy, Sadman, sustained bullet wounds along with another passer-by Ferdaus (23).
Another two - Milon (22), Russel (23) - were also shot.
The injured persons were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital and later sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
The injured police personnel are sub-inspector Mosaddek Mawla, Nayek 'Naeem' and constable 'Shamim'.
Comilla Kotwali Police Station Sub-inspector Shahjahan Kabir said, "We had to fire 25 rounds of teargas-shells and 24 rounds of rubber bullets to bring situation under control."
Magistrate Abu Awal said that 15 Juba Dal activists were arrested from the spot. They are Sumon (15), Mostafizur Rahman (35), Hridoy (20), Pavel (18), Rafique (22), Roni (25), Zahir (22), Anu (35), Rubel (25), Ripon (20), Abul Hossain (24) and Ripon (25).
Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Mohiuddin Mahmud said they recovered a revolver from the spot.
He said a case was lodged against the arrested persons and some three hundred unidentified clashers.
