Factories gutted in fire in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG, February 24: Fire gutted a synthetic foam factory and a padding factory at Nasirabad industrial area in the city today.
The fire broke out from electric short circuit at the Foam Industries Ltd at the Nasirabad Textile Gate under Bayezid police station at around 7.15 am. The fire engulfed the adjacent Star Padding, a sister concern of Foam Industries, privately-owned enterprises.
Fire fighters from three nearby stations rushed to the scene and doused the fire after one hour. Two boilers, utility machines, chemicals, foam and raw materials were damaged.
The employees and officers of the factories were scheduled to leave for Cox's Bazar for picnic this morning but following the incident they suspended the programme, employees said.
