Failed HSC examinee dies after taking poison

A college girl, who took poison on Sunday after knowing that she did not succeed in this year’s HSC exam, succumbed to her injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Jafrin Khatun, 18, daughter of Khademul Islam of Gouripur village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila. Police, quoting family members, said Jafrin, got upset after knowing that she failed in this year’s HSC exam, which was published on Sunday last, and took poison at their residence around 3:00pm on the day. She was taken to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital and later shifted to RMCH as her condition deteriorated. Later, she succumbed to her injures on Monday night. AKM Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident. An UD case was filed in this connection, according to a news agency.
