Fake NGO chief, 2 others held in Satkhira

Police in a drive arrested three officials of a fake non-governmental organisation (NGO), including its head, from a hotel in Satkhira on Friday morning on charge of conning people out of Tk450 million.
The arrestees were identified as Abdur Razzak, 50, chief of RDP Finance and Investment, its Satkhira branch manager Julkar Nain and cashier Hafizur Rahman.
Tipped off that the NGO officials were holding a meeting at Tiger Plus Hotel to reorganise the NGO, a team of police conducted the drive there in the morning and arrested them.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station OC Emdad Sheikh said the NGO swindled around Tk450 million from 20,000 people promising to provide them with Tk2,500 as interest against the investment of Tk100,000 per month.
Later on May 13 this year, the clients laid siege to the local NGO office when the company refused to pay the profit as well as their deposits.
Following the incident, police locked the NGO office after arresting four of its workers on the day.
