Fakhrul, 4 others\\\' bail cancelled

While the High Court (HC) granted bail to three BNP leaders, the Supreme Court cancelled HC bail granted to five of its leaders in separate cases on Sunday, reports UNB.
The Appellate Division of the SC scrapped bail granted by the High Court to five BNP leaders, including its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain, passed the order upon a petition filed the prosecution.
The other leaders include BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, its joint secretary general Amanullah Aman, Dhaka city unit member secretary Abdus Salam and acting secretary general of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Obaidul Haque Nasim.
Of them, the bail of Mirza Fakhul was cancelled in one case while that of others in four cases each.
The cases were filed with Ramna and Shahbagh police stations.
On January 28 this year, the prosecution appealed to the SC for cancellation of the bail.
Meanwhile, the HC on Sunday granted a six-month anticipatory bail to BNP leaders Mirza Abbas, Amanullah Aman and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy in a case filed in connection with the killing of a Shibir activist on December 29.
An HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order after hearing three separate petitions submitted by their lawyers seeking bail.
The accused BNP leaders appeared before the court during the hearing.
A Shibir activist was killed during a clash between police and 18-party activists during their 'March for Democracy' in the city's Malibagh area on December 29 last year.
A case was filed with Rampura police station in this connection on December 30 accusing the three BNP leaders and some unknown people.
