Friday, 12 November 2010

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, a leader of the main opposition party BNP, has surrendered to court and received bail in a defamation suit filed against him for making derogatory comments about the incumbent state minister for Law, reports bdnews24.com.
The leader surrendered to Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court Thursday morning and appealed to be awarded bail. Metropolitan Magistrate Rokhsana Begum Happy permitted the bail based on a Tk 5,000 bond.
On July 18, founder and current chief of Bangabandhu Foundation Abul Malek alias Mashiur Malek filed the case with the court.
Following the filing of the case, Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Emdadul Haque summoned Mr Alamgir to come to court on November 11.
Malek alleged that Fakhrul referred to Quamrul Islam as 'psychologically ill' and 'crazy' with the intention to defame him nationally and internationally during a meeting of the Zia Council held at the National Press Club on July 14.
