Fakhrul sees deep-rooted conspiracy behind repression

Friday, 28 February 2014

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said the repressive acts against opposition leaders and activists by ‘Awami cadres’ during the staggered upazila elections came as part of the government’s deep-rooted conspiracy to annihilate its opponents. “The incumbent illegal government thinks that it’ll be able to hang onto power by annihilating the opposition parties through killings, abducting the opposition leaders and activists, making them disappeared and arresting them in false cases. It (govt) has made the entire country a terrible death valley,” he said. The BNP spokesperson came up with the remark in a statement protesting the attack on his party’s Morelganj upazila unit leader and vice chairman candidate Abdul Mannan Khan in Bagerhat. He alleged that ‘Awami cadres’ attacked upazila BNP joint general secretary and cut off the tendons of his hands and legs before the Jum’a prayers on Friday, according to UNB.
