Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday criticised his Awami League counterpart Obaidul Quader regarding a "compromise with the US and India" ahead of the polls.
"A compromise is done. America needs Delhi. As Delhi is there, we (ruling party) are also there," said Obaidul Quader told a rally in the capital on Tuesday.
"Did Delhi tell you (ruling party) that there's no need for elections? Then declare yourself elected by force? If not, then tell clearly," asserted Mr Fakhrul.
The BNP secretary said this at a convention of professionals at Engineers Institution in Ramna area.
"A wrong-headed person (Sheikh Hasina) is in power. They have no legitimacy. The countrymen don't believe them (the ruling party). People of the democratic world also don't believe them."
"The countries that want to see institutionalisation of democracy clearly say elections in 2014 and 2018 were not held properly. This time, legitimacy won't be given to them to hold elections."
"We (BNP) don't have any word to condemn her (PM) unpleasant comment on Khaleda Zia," he said while criticising her comment made in London recently.
The PM also revealed some truth that whatever happened in the country did follow her signal, he added.
"Eviction of Begum Khaleda Zia from her cantonment house happened as per the will of the prime minister also proved that there is no necessity of judiciary."
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's decision is the final decision. Now she could declare herself as a monarch," stated Mr Fakhrul. "BNP has been in a peaceful movement over the last two years. If anyone tries to attack our peaceful movement, it will be resisted," he warned.
"This time people and the whole world are united to see a free and participatory election in the country," he said, accusing the government of trying to stage another farcical election in the country.
He termed the ruling Awami League as a big liar which is rare in the world, adding that people knew it very well how much lobbying was there for taking a selfie.
Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad member secretary Quader Gani Chowdhury moderated the event with former attorney general advocate AJ Mohammad Ali in the chair.
Twenty-two professional bodies took part in the event.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal president ASM Abdur Rab, Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Jatiya Dal president Syed Ehsanul Huda and Nagorik Sanghati chief coordinator Zunaid Saki, among others, were present.
