Fakhrul sued for calling PM killer

A defamation case was filed Monday against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on charge of making 'derogatory comments' against Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina and her party Awami League (AL), reports UNB.
Bangladesh Awami Matshyajibi League vice-president SM Nur-e-Alam Siddique filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakrabarty took cognisance of the case and fixed  Monday afternoon for passing an order on the issue.
The plaintiff alleged that BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan central office on August 24 said that Awami League is a killer party and its president Sheikh Hasina is a killer too.
"I saw reports over Fakhrul's remarks in different online and electronic media on the same day and in different national dailies on the following day which tarnished the image of the Prime Minister in home and abroad," said the complainant.
