FE REPORT
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon his party men to brace for a tougher time ahead centring on their anti-government movement.
"You (leaders and activists) have to bear more pains next to topple this government and establish a pro-people one," he told a rally outside the party's Nayapaltan headquarters on Saturday.
"The people of the country don't want to see the government to remain in power any longer," he said.
Mr Fakhrul accused the government of committing all immoral acts.
He said the government would not be able to suppress the anti-government movement by using brutal force.
The government was hatching conspiracies to foil their ongoing anti-government movement, he said, urging all to defeat it with all their strength.
"The ruling Awami League is trying to lay all blames on opponents. So, we have to be cautious. Whatever the conspiracy, we have to oust the government through a untied movement."
Mr Fakhrul said the government would not be able to remain in power by using any brutal force and oppression.
He asked the Sheikh Hasina government to resign immediately and hold a free, fair and participatory election under a neutral caretaker government.
The BNP secretary said hundreds of opponent leaders and activists were now in languishing in jails in false cases filed by this government.
BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas sounded a word of warning that they would not sit idle if the government tries to resist their peaceful programme.
"If the government really feels the pulse of the people, it won't remain in power. The government wants to remain in power by arresting and killing opposition leaders and activists."
Before the rally, Dhaka north city unit BNP brought out a mass procession from outside Better Life Hospital at Rampura that ended in front of Nayapaltan party office.
Another procession was taken out by Dhaka south city unit BNP from Kamalapur area that terminated outside Nayapaltan office after parading through Pir Jangi Mazar, Arambagh and Fakirapool intersections.
The processions started around 2:30 pm where hundreds of leaders and activists from different wards participated in.
Other like-minded parties of BNP also held rallies and brought out processions separately on Saturday in the capital for the government's ouster and a participatory election under a neutral caretaker government.
The mass procession was the sixth programme of BNP since its one-point movement declared on July 12.
The BNP and its like-minded 36 parties have been in the movement for the government's resignation, release of detained BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and the holding of next polls under a neutral government.
They brought out black-flag processions on August 24 and 25 in the capital and across the country.
