BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited on Wednesday the village home of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Dhaka north city unit vice president Zakir Hossain Milon who reportedly died in police custody early Monday, reports UNB.
Fakhrul went to Milon's house at Majukhan in Gazipur's Pubail in the afternoon and consoled his bereaved mother Hosne Ara and wife Shahnaj Tania Akhter and other family members.
The BNP secretary general could not hold back tears as two minor girls of Milon broke into tears for their father when he approached to cuddle them, creating a heart-rending situation.
He, on behalf of the party acting chairman Tarique Rahman, provided the family members with financial assistance.
Later, Fakhrul offered fateha at the grave of Milon and placed wreaths on behalf of the party.
Talking to reporters, he described Milon's death in custody as an example of the government's extreme brutal attitude towards its opponents.
"Milon's family has been passing through a very tough time. I'm here to console his family members on behalf of our party chairperson and acting chairman. We'll always be there beside Milon's family," he added.
Fakhrul asked the local BNP leaders to look after Milon's family members.
Plainclothes police arrested Milon, also the acting president of Tejgaon thana unit JCD, on March 6 in front of the Jatiya Press Club on his way back home after attending a human chain programme of the party.
He was taken on a three-day remand on March 8 and sent to jail on Sunday. Milon was taken to Dhaka Medical Hospital on Monday morning where doctors declared him dead. BNP alleged that he died due to 'brutal torture on him during the remand."
