Wednesday, 16 September 2015

A Dhaka court on Wednesday put Saifur Rahman Farabi on a three-day remand in a case filed over the murder of blogger Avijit Roy.
Metropolitan Magistrate Maruf Hossain passed the order after Detective Branch Inspector Fazlur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Farabi before the court seeking a seven-day remand for him, a news agency report said.
Earlier on March 2, four days after the killing of blogger Avijit Roy, a Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) team arrested Farabi from Jatrabari bus stand in the capital for his alleged involvement in the killing.
On February 26, unidentified assailants killed Avijit, 42, and badly injured his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya on Dhaka University campus as the couple was returning home from Ekushey Book Fair.
Rab sources said Farabi, a dropout student of the Physics Department of Chittagong University, threatened to kill Avijit, one of the founder moderators of popular blog Mukto-Mona, about one year before the killing.
