Farm tech fair begins in city

A three-day national agriculture technology fair 2015 Sunday kicked off in the city for the first time aiming to display modern agricultural technologies.
Agriculture minister Begum Matia Chowdhury urged the technologists to present their newly-invented technologies to the farmers in an easy way so that they can adopt it.
She said: "Sustainable agricultural technology as well as good seeds, fertilisers, irrigation and pest management to the local farmers which will help to increase the production." She said this as chief guest of the inaugural ceremony of the fair at AKM Giasuddin Milky auditorium in Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
Parliamentary standing committee on agriculture ministry Chairman Makbul Hossain and DAE director general AZM Momtajul Karim attended as special guests at the programme.
Agriculture ministry additional secretary Bijoy Bhattacharya presided over the inaugural session.
A total of 26 public and private institutions are taking part in the fair different technologies including crop harvester, rice transplanter, plaughing tractors, genetically modified crops, used of preservatives in food, seeds of high yielding varieties, tactics of growing mashrooms as well as other exotic fruits and vegetables.
