Farmer changes lot from vegetables cultivation

GAIBANDHA, Mar 31 (BSS): A farmer here has set an example in changing his fate radically through cultivating different varieties of vegetables and fruits on his land and homestead.
The successful farmer is Amir Hossain Bepari (48), son of late Mozahar Bepari at Putimari village under Muktinagar union of Saghata Upazila in the district.
He has cultivated different vegetables including tomato, potato, brinjal, chilli, onion, garlic, cabbage, cauliflower, papaw, carrot, bean, cucumber, kidney bean, lady's finger, radish, gourd, sweet gourd, pumpkin, balsam apple, lalshak, palongshak, beet and other green vegetables on his land and homestead during the current season.
Of those, the harvest of potato, brinjal, cabbage, cauliflower, bean, cucumber, radish, gourd, lalshak has already been completed and the harvest of tomato, chili, onion, carrot, parble, balsam apple, sweet gourd and papaw is going on in full swing.
Side by side with the harvest of the fruits like banana, litchi and jackfruit will start within very short time. In this way, the varieties are cultivated in phases and harvested one after another all over the year, farmer sources said.
The farmer has already earned TK 0.3 million by selling vegetables in the local wholesale markets this season. He expressed his optimism he said he will earn more 0.15 million by selling other items within two months.
Amir Hossain has created a record and also become famous in the district as an ideal farmer for the successful cultivation of more vegetables on 9 bighas of land at a time and getting huge economic benefit from it.
UP Chairman Aziz Mostafa Dudu said earlier the farmer had nothing and he used to work on others land. Now he is a self- reliant person and this has been possible by his hard working and self-confidence.
Mentioning Amir Hossain as a very energetic person Upazila agriculture officer M. Shawkat Ali Sarker said if any one wants to witness a model of 'one house one farm project', he or she can visit the house of Amir Hossain and gather experience about it.
Deputy Director of DAE AH Bazlur Rashid said Amir is our pride. He deserves national award for his outstanding success in farming vegetables.
Amir Hossain told to the news agency that he is very happy with his wife, three children and mother and newly earned wealth over Tk 5.0 million.
