BOGURA, Jan 13: Farmers have begun to harvest early sown potato from the last couple of weeks in Bogura district.
The farmers who have sown potato last October and November in the district are now busy in harvesting to get lucrative price as the earlier they can market their produce the more profit they can earn.
"I have cultivated early potato on 13 decimal of land spending Tk 2,600 this season," said farmer Jalal Uddin under Kahaloo upazila. He said, "I have achieved over 25 maunds of yield and sold those at Tk 17,000."
District Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said, "We have encouraged farmers to grow potato diversification without depending merely on mustard cultivation. Responding to DAE's call, farmers have shown more eager on the vegetable cultivation as they got a good market price last couple of year."
In a visit at Mohasthan haat recently the correspondent found the wholesalers from the different adjacent districts including Joypurhat, Sirajganj, Naogaon are gathering there to purchase potato. Each maund of fresh potato is being sold at Tk 700 to 800 at the haat.
