Farmers busy with Aman cultivation in Pabna

PABNA, June 20: Farmers in nine upazilas of Pabna have been passing their busy times transplanting seedlings of Aman paddy as it is high time for cultivation and it will continue till next two weeks of the current month.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said a total of 65,113 hectares of land have been brought under Aman cultivation with a production target of 1,77,107 tonnes of paddy this season.
Of them, 6,225 hectares have been brought under Aman cultivation in Pabna Sadar upazila, 14,950 hectares in Ishwardi, 6,550 hectares in Atghoria, 5,100 hectares in Chatmohar, 6,005 hectares in Bhangura, 12,760 hectares in Faridpur, 7690 hectares in Sujanagar and 10043 hectares in Bera and 8790 hectares in Santhia upazila.
The farmers of the district are busy preparing their lands for transplanting Aman paddy with wooden ploughs, tractors and power tillers.
To make Aman cultivation a success DAE Pabna provided training among farmers on using of fertiliser and other agro-inputs to produce more paddy.
BADC and its approved dealers have sold high quality seeds among the farmers and Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank of different upazilas and district branch while many NGOs had distributed short term loan among farmers for cultivating Aman.
Sohel Hossain, an Aman paddy farmer of Bhojendrapur village under Pabna sadar upazila said, "I cultivated high yielding and local variety Aman paddy on my four bighas of land”.
