CHUADANGA, Apr 26: Farmers in Chuadanga district are expecting a bumper Boro production of this year due to favourable weather condition, suitable soil and necessary technical help from the local Agriculture Department.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said Boro cultivation target has been achieved in the district during the current season.
DAE office sources said they had set a total of 36,714 hectares of land under Boro cultivation this year with a production target of 1,43,184.6 metric tonnes of paddies. Of them 6600 hectares of land have been brought under the Boro cultivation in Chuadanga sadar Upazila, 15,050 hectares in Alamdanga Upazila, 8839 hectares in Damurhuda Upazila and 6225 hectares in Jibannagar Upazila.
DAE arranged a training programme for the farmers and advised them to use organic fertilisers before the Boro cultivation, said officials.
Siddique Hossain, a farmer of Kulchara village under Chuadanga sadar Upazila said, 'I cultivated Boro paddy spending Tk 24,000 on three bighas of land this season and I am expecting Tk 20,000 to Tk 22,000 as profit from the produce."
The farmers of the district urged the authorities to monitor the paddy markets properly during harvesting Boro as a section of dishonest traders make a syndicate and control the local markets. As a result the farmers are deprived of getting fair price of the produce.
