Farmers planting Boro for bumper production

RANGPUR, Dec 14 (BSS): Farmers have already started planting early variety of Boro seedlings, putting to their full efforts in achieving a record production target as fixed by the government in northern area in the country this season.
Preparation of Boro seedbeds for the late varieties, however, is still on and the farmers are planting Boro seedlings and also making their lands ready for further plantation after harvesting the T-Aman paddy.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said a record target of producing 66,59,361 tonnes of Boro from 15,69,209 hectares of land has been fixed for the current season in the region.
Deputy Director of DAE of Rangpur Hazrat Ali said special emphasis has been given on using the latest technology and hybrid seeds this time to help the farmers achieve the target and even exceed it.
Special steps have been taken by the DAE, BADC, BMDC, BRRI and BARI to bring more land under Boro farming including cultivation of hybrid varieties on larger scales aiming to increase the production further for ensuring the country's food security.
