Faruk’s family in uncertainty

JAMALPUR, Sept 3 (BSS): Ultra-poor Sandhya Begum's life is now leading a miserable life as her husband Md Faruq (40) was shot dead in police firing on Dhaka's outskirts Savar during the countrywide student-led upsurge ending Sheikh Hasina's 15 years autocratic rule, reports BSS.
Police opened fire to disperse demonstrators against Awami League (AL)'s misrule in the area on July 21 as Faruk was shot while working at a shop.
He was whisked off to a nearby hospital and the attending doctors declared him dead.
Faruq was only earning member of his family working in poultry shop in Savar. He is survived by wife, son Mahfuz, 10 and daughter Tabachchhum, 7.
Faruq, son of Haydar Ali, dwelled at Dengargar village in Sharifpur union under Jamalpur Sadar upazila but he worked at Savar.
Sandhya Begum said, "After my husband's sad demise, I am in great worry about the future of my two children".
She said Mahfuz is a student of class five and Tabachchhum reads in class one in a local Madrasah.
She also said Faruk wished Mahfuz to be 'a Maulana.'
Sandhya Begum wants justice for killing his husband and seeks help for livelihood.
Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Arifur Rahman said the upazila administration extended assistance disbursing Tk 20,000, three bundle corrugated iron sheet and TK 9,000 for repairing house to Sandhya Begum.
Sources said at least 13 Jamalpur residents were killed in various places of Dhaka, Narayanganj and Gazipur from July 18 to August 6 centering the mass uprising.
