Faruqui’s janaza held in city

Namaz-e-janaza for 'Channel i' programme presenter Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqui was held at the National Eidgah in the city after juma' prayer Friday, reports UNB.
Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Moulana M Salahuddin conducted the namaz-e-janaza for late Maulana Faruqui, who was also Khatib of the Supreme Court Jame Masque and a leader of Bangladesh Islami Front. Moulana Nurul Islam Farooqi, presenter of a documentary titled 'Kafela', based on visits to historic sites of Islam, on Channel i Television, was killed by unknown assailants at his East Rajabazar residence in the capital on Wednesday evening.
Our Correspondent adds: A large procession was brought out today in Chittagong after Juma prayers which demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers of Moulan Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqui. Protesters said Faruqui was killed due to Islamic Aquida and ideological conflicts.
Bangladesh Islamic Front, its religious wing Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamayet, student front Islami Chhatra Sena workers and hundreds of Musallis joined the procession from the city's grand mosque Jamiatul Falah Jame Mosjid to Chittagong Press Club.
A protest rally was held in front of the club. The speakers held the Wahabi-Jamayati group responsible directly or indirectly in the murder of Faruqui.
