Farzana Islam new JU VC

Prof. Farzana Islam, a teacher of Anthropology Department of Jahangirnagar University (JU), has been appointed new vice-chancellor (VC) of the university.
President and JU Chancellor Abdul Hamid  appointed Sunday Farzana Islam as the VC for four years through a fax, JU Registrar Abu Bakar confirmed.
Besides, Prof. Abul Hossain, a teacher of Physics Department, has been appointed as the Pro-VC for four years.
Prof. Farzana Islam is the first female VC of the country. She was born in Dhaka on December 25, 1958.
She was appointed as a lecturer in JU in 1986, and was promoted as a professor in 2006. In the VC panel polls, held on February 20, she bagged the highest 43 votes among all candidates.
The new VC took her charge at 4.00pm Sunday at the JU council room through a colorful programme.
Prof M A Matin, the Acting VC, Prof. Afsar Ahmed, Pro-VC (administration), Treasurer Abul Khayer, the registrar, senate members, hall provosts and officers were present on the occasion.   
Prof. Farzana Islam in her speech said, "I will try to work for the university with the assistance of all members of the campus."
"With the help of all I will try to make JU as the country's number one university in every sector."
She also urged all to expand their cooperation towards her, so that she can fulfill her duties well.
